Nonprofit leader transforms adversity into mentorship for foster youth
Razing the Bar, Inc. is a San José nonprofit that helps emerging adults in Santa Clara County move from homelessness to a home they can keep, and to people who stay. Founded in 2017 by people with lived experience of foster care and homelessness, Razing the Bar pairs stable housing with weekly support from mentors who have walked the same road, and considers every connection permanent. Its housing includes transitional housing, rapid re-housing, and permanent supportive housing funded in part by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
