Razing the Bar protects the information people trust us with: the young people we walk beside, the donors who stand with them, and everyone who visits this website. This page explains how, in plain language.
Razing the Bar protects the personal information of every young person we serve. Records are kept secure and are available only to Razing the Bar staff who need them to support you.
Information shared with the County
Some information is entered into Santa Clara County’s Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), the secure system the County uses to coordinate housing and services. At intake, we explain how your information is used and shared, and you decide what you agree to.
When we share information
We share your information only with your permission, unless the law requires otherwise. If that happens, we will let you know. You can ask to see the information we have about you at any time.
Immigration status
Razing the Bar staff will not ask about your immigration status. We do not share information about anyone’s immigration status except as required by law.
No one will be denied services at Razing the Bar because of race, color, religion, creed, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, marital or familial status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
Every young person at Razing the Bar is a specific, rights-bearing person. That means:
Taking part in services is voluntary and is never a condition of your home.
You set your own goals, and you can change them.
You can see the information we keep about you.
You can raise a concern or file a grievance without fear of retaliation.
Sharing your lived experience is always your choice.
Razing the Bar honors the Donor Bill of Rights, developed by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, and the Giving Institute.
What we collect
When you give, we collect your name, email address, mailing address, phone number if you provide it, and the amount, date, and campaign of your gift. Payment card information is entered directly with Stripe, our payment processor. Razing the Bar never sees or stores your full card number.
How we use it
To process your gift, send your tax receipt and acknowledgment, report to you on the work your gift supports, and keep accurate financial records as the law requires.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers who make your gift possible, such as Stripe and the providers that host our website and send our email, and government agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service and the California Attorney General’s Registry of Charities and Fundraisers, when the law requires it.
We never sell, rent, or trade donor information. Information about your gift is handled with respect and kept confidential to the extent provided by law. If you ask us to keep your gift anonymous, your name will not appear in any donor listing or recognition.
Your choices
You may review or correct your information, ask to be removed from our mailing list, or ask that your gift be kept anonymous at any time by emailing information@razingthebar.org. You may also ask for our most recent financial statements or who serves on our Board. Records of your gift are kept as long as tax and financial recordkeeping law requires.
We collect only the information you choose to give us through this website, such as your email address when you subscribe to our newsletter, or your contact and payment information when you make a gift. We use it only for that purpose. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link.
